Mini Biographies:
Josh Tickell (born August 7, 1975, in Baltimore, Maryland) and Rebecca Harrell Tickell (born March 2, 1980, in Lancaster, Ohio) are a husband-and-wife filmmaking duo, authors, and prominent environmental activists. Josh first gained national fame in 1997 by driving his “Veggie Van”—a vehicle powered entirely by used french fry oil—on a 25,000-mile tour across the United States to promote biodiesel, which inspired his 2008 Sundance Audience Award-winning documentary, “Fuel.” Rebecca began her career as a child actress, starring as Jessica Riggs in the 1989 holiday classic “Prancer,” before shifting her focus entirely to environmental activism and production. The couple met during the making of “Fuel” and married in 2010, subsequently establishing Big Picture Ranch, a boutique production studio based on their five-acre regenerative organic farm in Ojai, California. Together, they have directed and produced a string of solutions-oriented environmental documentaries, including “The Big Fix” (a 2011 Cannes Film Festival Official Selection detailing the BP oil spill) and “Pump” (2014). Additionally, They are most celebrated for their regenerative agriculture trilogy: “Kiss the Ground” (2020), its sequel “Common Ground” (2023), and the final chapter, “Groundswell” (2026).
About “Groundswell”
“Groundswell” is the stirring final chapter of a groundbreaking documentary trilogy following “Kiss the Ground” and “Common Ground,” a sweeping cinematic journey across 5 continents narrated by Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson. At the heart of this film is regeneration, a practical and proven set of farming practices that build living soil, store vast amounts of carbon deep underground, and produce more nutrient-dense food on the same acre of land. It is measurable. This movement toward a regenerative form of agriculture that’s better for human health is taking hold. Across the globe, farmers, scientists, Indigenous leaders, and visionaries are already proving it at scale, quietly reversing three interconnected crises racing toward humanity: climate change, species extinction, and catastrophic soil loss. Carbon is being drawn deep into the earth. Grasslands are breathing again. Rivers are running clean. Species are returning. Yields are climbing as soil comes back to life. In the film’s closing moments, His Majesty Prince William steps forward to introduce pioneering regenerative rancher Gabe Brown, passing the torch from one generation of stewards to the next. A groundswell of hope and a living blueprint for global renewal.
