In Memoriam: In 2010, our host Cindy Rhodes had the privilege to interview James Van Der Beek, who came to our show to talk about his career and the former program called Voices of UC. Here now is the original full interview as we remember the late actor. James Van Der Beek (2010) In the full complete 2010 interview with host Cindy Rhodes, James Van Der Beek talked about his old series "Dawson's Creek," his recurring role on "Mercy," what kind of roles he liked to play, and being a daddy for the first time. As part of the then-promotional tour, James told us about Voices of UC, a program to help create greater visibility to ulcerative colitis (UC), which is a disease that significantly limits people’s ability to engage in physical and social activities. PLEASE NOTE: The VoicesofUC.com website is gone in its original form and is no longer a dedicated hub for that specific campaign. Mini-Biography: Born on March 8, 1977, in Cheshire, Connecticut, James Van Der Beek was an actor who rose to global superstardom in 1998 as the titular lead of the WB’s hit drama "Dawson’s Creek." During the show’s peak, he successfully transitioned to film with the 1999 football drama "Varsity Blues," earning an MTV Movie Award for his performance as Jonathan "Mox" Moxon. After the series ended in 2003, Van Der Beek went on to play Sean Bateman in "The Rules of Attraction," as well as roles in the films "Texas Rangers" (2001), "Formosa Betrayed" (2009), "Labor Day" (2013), and "Bad Hair" (2020). On TV, he played a heightened, hilariously arrogant version of himself in the sitcom "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23" and Will Stokes in another sitcom, "Friends with Better Lives" (2014). Additionally, he appeared as Dr. Joe Briggs in "Mercy," FBI agent Elijah Mundo on "CSI: Cyber" (2015–2016) and Matt Bromley during the first season of the FX drama "Pose" (2018). The actor co-created the series "What Would Diplo Do?," had a memorable run on "Dancing with the Stars," and recently appeared on "The Masked Singer." Before his passing on February 11, 2026, he remained active in the industry, even filming a role for the upcoming "Legally Blonde" prequel series, "Elle."
