SIDEWALKS correspondent Lori Rosales interviews the actual journalist Kim Barker, who was portrayed by actress Tina Fey in the film “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,” which is based on her memoir, “The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan.” In the interview (without film clips), they talk about Barker’s career and her time on set with the all-star cast.

Mini-Biography:
Grew up in Montana and Wyoming, Kim Barker is a journalist. She has worked at The Seattle Times, the Spokane Spokesman-Review and ProPublica, as well as freelanced with the Foreign Affairs, Reader’s Digest and The Atlantic. Going overseas to New Delhi and Islamabad, Barker became the South Asia bureau chief for The Chicago Tribune from 2004 to 2009. In 2011, Barker’s book about those years, “The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan,” became a feature film called “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,” starring Tina Fey, Martin Freeman, Alfred Molina, Margot Robbie and Billy Bob Thornton. It was a dark comedic version on her time in South Asia. Currently, Barker lives in Brooklyn and works as a New York Times metro reporter specializing in investigative reporting and narrative writing.
