Mini-Biography:

Born on September 13, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York, Iyanla Vanzant is an Emmy-winning television personality, prolific author, and spiritual teacher who transitioned from a career as a public defender to become one of the most recognized life coaches. She rose to national prominence through frequent appearances on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in the late 1990s. She hosted her own daily syndicated talk show, “Iyanla” (2001-2002) for one season , and later serving as a life coach on the reality series “Starting Over” and as a Lifeclass Teacher on “Oprah’s Lifeclass” (2012-2013), Vanzant is known for her long-running series, “Iyanla: Fix My Life” (2012–2021), on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), where she acted as both host and executive producer. As an author, Vanzant has published over 15 books, including several New York Times bestsellers such as “Acts of Faith: Meditations for People of Color,” “Value in the Valley: A Black Woman’s Guide Through Life’s Dilemmas,” and “Yesterday, I Cried: Celebrating the Lessons of Living and Loving.” In early 2026, “Iyanla: The Inside Fix” premiered on OWN, marking her return to TV after a four-year hiatus following the series finale of “Iyanla: Fix My Life.”
