Oh Myyy! George, aka Sulu, comes to SIDEWALKS to discuss his favorite “Star Trek” movie and his documentary, “To Be Takei.”

In the full interview version, the actor / activist talks to SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes about his early acting start, his favorite “Star Trek” film and the biographical documentary, “To Be Takei.”

Born in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, California, George Takei is best known as Hikaru Sulu on the original “Star Trek” TV series. He also played the character in six feature films, an episode of “Star Trek: Voyager,” the web series “Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II,” and a number of “Star Trek” video games.

Takei started his acting career in Hollywood in the late 1950s, with roles in “Ice Palace,” “Hell to Eternity,” and “PT 109.” Some of his early TV credits, including “Playhouse 90,” “Perry Mason,” “Hawaiian Eye,” “Twilight Zone,” “My Three Sons,” “I Spy,” “Mission: Impossible,” and “It Takes a Thief.”

Later in his career, Takei became an announcer on “The Howard Stern Show” on Sirius XM Radio and had recurring roles in “Heroes,” “Supah Ninjas,” “The Neighbors,” and “Space Cases,” as well as voice role in “Kim Possible,” “The Simpsons,” and “The Super Hero Squad Show.”

Takei received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1986. He is a proponent of LGBT rights and won awards and accolades for his work on human rights and Japanese–American relations. Recently, he published “Oh Myyy! There Goes the Internet,” is host of the AARP-produced YouTube series “Takei’s Take” and is starring in the musical “Allegiance.”
