SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes talked to Eric Dane about his start as an actor, his memories of “Grey’s Anatomy,” and his starring role in TNT’s “The Last Ship.”
Mini-Biography:
Born on November 9, 1972, in San Francisco, California, Eric Dane was an actor, who is best known for playing Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on “Grey’s Anatomy.” A starring role in “Gideon’s Crossing” and a recurring role in “Charmed,” he made appearances on TV series and TV-movies, including “Saved by the Bell,” “The Wonder Years,” “Roseanne,” “Married With Children,” “Silk Stalkings,” “Las Vegas,” “Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane,” “Wedding Wars,” “Serving in Silence,” and “Helter Skelter.” In feature films, Dane was in “The Basket,” “Sol Goode,” “Feast,” “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “Open Water 2: Adrift,” “Marley & Me,” “Valentine’s Day,” and “Burlesque.” Recently, he played Cal Jacobs in HBO’s “Euphoria,” FBI Special Agent Nathan Blythe in “Countdown,” Martin in this international miniseries “Kabul,” and guest role in the episode “The Fire Fighter” as Matthew Ramati in NBC’s “Brilliant Minds.” Following a courageous ten-month battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), during which he became a prominent advocate for research and awareness, Eric Dane passed away on February 19, 2026, in Los Angeles at the age of 53.
