The performer shares personal stories and insights into her songwriting journey, her musical inspirations, and her creative process, plus you'll hear performances of her songs, including "How to Leave California" and "Hope." Mini-Biography: Emily Zisman is described as a lyrical philosopher and storyteller of the contemporary human experience who uses honesty and humor in her work. Born in Berkeley, California, the folk-Americana singer/songwriter moved to New York City in 1999 to study musical theater but later found songwriting to be a better way to connect with her community. She moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2005 to pursue songwriting and performing. Zisman released her debut album, Naked Day Alone, in 2009, followed by her second self-released album, Weeds & Wildflowers, in 2014. She also released EPs (Extended Plays), including New Mythologies (2023) and The Haunted (2025). Since picking up the guitar at the age of eight, Zisman’s musical journey has taken her throughout the world. In addition to her solo work, Zisman is part of the electronic duo Chance’s End, a violin-electronica project with her longtime collaborator, violinist Ryan Avery. Zisman performs regularly around the Bay Area with groups such as Jazz Collective, The Americano Social Club, and the funk/soul band Grand Avenue Soul. Her music is part of the 2025 Bay Beats Collection from the San Francisco Public Library.
