Interview: Denise Crosby (Star Trek: TNG)

She is best known for her role as Yar in “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” She talks about being in the popular sci-fi series and why she left.

Lee talks to the actress about her first professional role in the TV-version of the Dudley Moore/Bo Derek film, “10”; why she left during season one of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”; her career with “Star Trek”; and if she wished she had a chance to appear with her TV castmates in the “TNG” feature films. She also talks about what makes her happy.

Born in Hollywood, California, Denise Crosby is an actress, who found fame playing Security Chief Tasha Yar in season one of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” She also played Yar’s half-Romulan daughter, Commander Sela, later in the series’ run. In the “Star Trek” universe, Crosby also appeared in the online series, “Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II,” as well as in the video games “Star Trek: Armada” and “Star Trek Online.” She produced and narrated the 1997 documentary “Trekkies” and the 2003 sequel “Trekkies 2.” In the 90’s, Crosby played the role of Mayor Chaucy Caldwell in  “Key West,” as well as recurring roles on the daytime drama “Days of Our Lives” (as Lisa Davis) and “Southland” (as Susan Salinger). She also played Dr. Gretchen Kelly in three episodes of “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.” Guest roles include “The Adventures of Brisco County,” “The X-Files,” “Law & Order: LA,” “Mad Men,” “Red Shoe Diaries,” “Models, Inc.,” “The Flash,” “Diagnosis Murder,” “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman ,” “Baywatch,” and “Dexter.” Some of her film roles include “48 Hrs.,” “Trail of the Pink Panther,” “Curse of the Pink Panther,” “Eliminators,” “Dolly Dearest,” “Pet Sematary,” “Jackie Brown,“ “Legend of the Phantom Rider,” “Mortuary,” and “Deep Impact.” Currently, Crosby plays Deb in the Showtime series, “Ray Donovan.”
