Born on March 12, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan, Courtney B. Vance has a long and successful career across stage, film, and television. His career began on the stage, earning his first Tony Award nomination for his role in August Wilson's "Fences," followed by a Tony win for his performance in Nora Ephron's "Lucky Guy." On TV, Vance played Assistant District Attorney Ron Carver for several seasons on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," attorney Johnnie Cochran in "The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story" (a primetime Emmy Award as for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie), George Freeman in "Lovecraft Country" (Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series), and public defender Franklin Roberts in "61st Street."
