Mini-Biography:
Born on December 28, 1953, in San Francisco, California, Martha Wash is often called “The Queen of Clubland.” She first rose to prominence in the late 1970s as part of the dynamic duo Two Tons o’ Fun, backing disco pioneer Sylvester, before renaming the group The Weather Girls and releasing the 1982 smash hit “It’s Raining Men.” In the late 1980s and early 1990s, her vocals became the uncredited driving force behind massive chart-toppers, including Black Box’s “Everybody Everybody” and C+C Music Factory’s Billboard Hot 100 number-one single “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now).” After music videos featured models lip-syncing over her vocals, Wash filed landmark lawsuits that permanently revolutionized the music industry by making proper vocal credits and royalties mandatory. After signing as a solo artist with RCA Records, Wash scored a string of consecutive number-one dance hits like “Carry On” and “Give It to You.” She continues to record and tour today, recently releasing her pop-soul album “Love & Conflict” and co-headlining a theater tour alongside comedian Marsha Warfield.
