Mini-Biography:

Born May 25, 1976, in Douglas, County Cork, Ireland, Cillian Murphy plays the title role of “Steve,” who serves as the headteacher of a school dedicated to boys facing societal and behavioral challenges. He initially attracted critical acclaim for his performance in the play “Disco Pigs” during the mid-1990s, a role he subsequently reprised in the 2001 film adaptation. His international breakthrough occurred with the lead role as Jim in Danny Boyle’s post-apocalyptic horror film “28 Days Later.” Murphy has had numerous collaborations with director Christopher Nolan in his films, including Scarecrow in “The Dark Knight” Trilogy, Robert Fischer in “Inception,” and Shivering Soldier in “Dunkirk.” Murphy received the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.” His other projects include “Red Eye,” “Breakfast on Pluto,” “The Wind That Shakes the Barley,” “Sunshine,” “The Party,” and “A Quiet Place Part II.” Murphy also starred in and produced the film “Small Things Like These” and the Netflix original film, “Steve.” He is an executive producer on the new “28 Years Later” trilogy and is set to reprise his role as Jim in the second film, “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.” On TV, he played Thomas “Tommy” Shelby, the shrewd and intense leader of a Birmingham gang in “Peaky Blinders.” He will be reprising that role in “Peaky Blinders” continuation film, “The Immortal Man.”
