about being involved with Second City and developing
"My Big Fat Greek Wedding." As
part
of the promotional tour,
she talks about adoption (she and her husband
adopted their daughter from foster care in 2008) and
the annual National Adoption Day.
Mini-Biography
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, Academy
Award-nominated actress Nia Vardalos bursted into
superstardom when she played Nia Portokalos (as well
as wrote) in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."
She garnered multiple nominations and awards for
"Greek" that distinguished Nia's work as both a
writer and an actress, including Writers Guild,
Broadcast Film Critic, and Golden Globe nominations
and an Independent Spirit Award win.
Nia was also was
nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original
Screenplay.
Nia also co-executive produced and starred in My
Big Fat Greek Life, a short-lived TV version of
the film.
A member of the famed Second City in Toronto and
Chicago, Nia has also starred in such motion
pictures as "Connie Carla," "My Life in Ruins," and
"I Hate Valentine's Day" and guest-starred
on numerous television shows, including
Curb Your Enthusiasm,
The Drew Carey Show, My Boys, Boy Meets World, The
Good Guys, and Drop
Dead Diva. She also voiced one of the vehicles
in Team Knight Rider.
Nia lives in Los Angeles with her husband, actor Ian
Gomez (Cougar Town), and their daughter.
