"Ms.
Kelly" continues successful career beyond Destiny's
Child
Superstar singer and actress Kelly Rowland is
best known as one of the founding members (along
with Beyonce) of Destiny’s Child, the
bestselling girl group of all-time.
Kelly is a four-time Grammy Award-winning pop and
R&B songstress and songwriter (three Grammies with
Destiny’s Child and one Grammy as a solo artist).
Kelly, who was born in Atlanta, raised in both
Atlanta and Houston, and currently lives in Sugar
Land, Texas, honed her acting chops starring in the
blockbuster motion picture “Freddy vs. Jason,” as
well as the Will Smith-produced feature film “The
Seat Filler.”
A spokesperson for Youth AIDS and a participant in
the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, Kelly and Beyonce
are also the founders of the “Knowles-Rowland Center
for Youth,” a multi-purpose community outreach
facility in downtown Houston.
In this
May 2007 interview, host Cindy
Rhodes speaks to
the multi-talented artist about getting her start,
her 2nd album "Ms Kelly" (released in June 2007),
her growing acting career, and if Kelly visits any
of her fans' websites.
As part of the promotional tour*, Kelly talks about
her performance at the prestigious Essence Music
Festival in New Orleans. Called the “Party with a
Purpose” and benefiting the Children’s Defense Fund
Freedom Schools in the Hurricane Katrina-ravaged New
Orleans’ area, the three-day Essence Music Festival
celebrates the rich cultural African-American legacy
and highlight artistic, musical, intellectual, and
spiritual achievements among the African-American
community. Kelly tells Sidewalks viewers how
they can win an all-expense paid trip for five
people to attend the Festival and see musical greats
like Kelly herself, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige,
Lionel Richie, and many more.
