Born in Hahira, Georgia, three-time All-Star coach Jerry Manuel is a
former player and current bench coach in Major
League Baseball (MLB).
Between 1975 - 1982, Manuel was a second baseman for
most of his playing career with teams such as The Detroit Tigers, Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres
and Chicago Clubs. In 1981, he was the starting 2nd
baseman for the Expos in their only postseason
series victory in 1981.
From 1998 - 2003, Manuel was the Chicago White Sox
Manager, who won both the American League's Central
Division title and the Manager of the Year award in
2000. With the White Sox, he managed for 971 games
with a record of 500 wins - 471 loses and .515
winning percentage.
In the 2005 season, Manuel was the 1st base coach
for the New York Mets, then became the team's bench
coach starting in the 2006 season. Mr. Manuel's name
is usually mentioned as a potential candidate for
managerial positions when teams are searching for a
new club manager.
