Djimon Hounsou (2010) Interviewed by host Maaika
Westen, Djimon talks about starting an acting
career, being a dad, and his
role (and wearing prosthetic makeup) in "The
Tempest."
Mini-Biography
Born in Cotonou, Benin, Djimon Hounsou is an
actor / model.
While he guest-starred in TV series such as
Beverly Hills, 90210, ER, and Alias,
Djimon's film debut was in "Without You I'm Nothing"
(1990) and he followed that with roles in "Unlawful
Entry" (1992), "Stargate" (1994), and "The Small
Hours" (1997).
He received a Golden Globe Award nomination for his
part as Cinqué in "Amistad" and was nominated for
the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in "In
America," as well as Broadcast Film Critics
Association, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Academy
Award nominations for "Blood Diamond."
A popular role for Djimon was as Juba in the 2000
film "Gladiator." Other films include: "Push,"
"Blueberry," "Constantine," "Beauty Shop," "The
Island," "Eragon," and "Never Back Down."
In 2007, Djimon became Calvin Klein underwear model
for their product line.
