Born in Hackney, London, England, UK, Idris Elba
is a multi-talented performer.
As an actor, one of his first acting roles was
playing Tim Webster in the British soap opera,
Family Affairs. He is recognized for playing
Russell "Stringer" Bell in HBO's The Wire.
Other TV roles include Ultraviolet,
Dangerfield, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries,
The Office (American version), Law & Order,
Black Men: The Truth, The No. 1 Ladies'
Detective Agency, and The Big C. He had
the lead role in a 6-part BBC television series,
Luther.
Some of his films roles are "Tyler Perry's Daddy's
Little Girls," " 28 Weeks Later," "American
Gangster," "This Christmas," "Prom Night," "RocknRolla,"
"The Unborn," "Obsessed," "Legacy," and "The
Losers." He will be playing Heimdall in "Thor" and
the title role in James Patterson's "Cross"
franchise.
Idris is also a DJ and hip-hop recording artist. His
DJ moniker is DJ Big Driis / Big Driis the Londoner.
He also performed and co-produced the intro to
Jay-Z's 2007 CD, "American Gangster."
