"Sidewalks" talks to
the star and director of
"Hairspray"
Sixteen years after the
release of the original
film, New Line Cinema brings
"Hairspray," a feature film
adaptation of the Tony
award-winning Broadway
production. The film
features new and original
material based on John
Waters’ 1988 cult classic
about star-struck teenagers
on a local Baltimore dance
show.
The comedy has an all-star
lineup including
John Travolta, Queen
Latifah, Michelle
Pfeiffer, Christopher
Walken, Amanda Bynes,
Allison Janney,
Brittany Snow, Zac
Efron, Elijah Kelley,
and eighteen-year-old
newcomer Nikki Blonsky.
Craig Zadan and Neil
Meron ("Chicago") are
the producers, Adam
Shankman ("Bringing Down
The House") directs, and
Leslie Dixon ("Freaky
Friday," "Outrageous
Fortune") wrote the
screenplay.
In this
June 2007 interview, host
Rafael Siegel speaks to
actress Nikki Blonsky, who
plays Tracy Turnblad, and
director Adam Shankman.
Nikki explains how she got
the role and finding out she
would be co-starring with
John Travolta and Queen
Latifah, while Adam tells us
the differences between this
film and the 1988 John
Waters version.
