Sidewalks'
Backstage Access to the California Music Awards!
(May 25,
2003) -- Green Day, The Donnas, and Queens
of the Stone Age were the multi-winners on the
2003 California Music Awards, which was held for
the first time under the sun at The Frank H. Ogawa
Plaza (City Center) in Oakland, California.
Besides being outdoors, the award ceremony was
free to the public, where the audience enjoyed
and danced to over six hours of live entertainment.
Along with the regular
categories, the CAMA handed
out several special awards. Rock group Green Day took home the
coveted Sprit of Rock award, while Larry Graham, Jr.,
bass player for Sly & The Family Stone, was
honored with an Innovator of Rock Award.
The CAMA also honored a number of legendary
R&B and Blues artists: R&B's singer and
Tower of Power's Lenny Williams, musician
Lady Bo (Bo Diddley's main guitarist),
singer / songwriter Sugar Pie De Santo,
and Blues singer / songwriter Jimmy
McCracklin.
For ten years, the production team of Sidewalks Entertainment
has been backstage at the award ceremony
securing exclusive interviews for the TV show and
website.
Sidewalks would like to give special
thanks to the following organizations and
individuals in arranging our backstage access: Michael
Coats of Coats Public Relations, CAMA
Executive Producer Dennis Erokan, Kid
Glove Entertainment's Gary Simmons, and the
staff of eClipsNow. Very special thanks
go to CAMA volunteer Bryn Sullivan for
getting the artists to the backstage media area.
