Meet Monica Calzada, an on-air
correspondent who made her
television debut on your entertainment TV
series
Majored in broadcasting, Monica's career goal is to
host an entertainment-based series or a children
television program.
In June of 2002, Monica met executive producer and Sidewalks
co-host Richard R. Lee
when she interned at KCRT Television, the
current home station to Sidewalks
Entertainment. During the first week of her
internship, Richard needed a last minute person
to co-host a comedy bit and host segment.
Monica jumped at the chance and proved to the
crew she has strong potential as a future on-air
talent.
Her first show was "The Bubble Gum"
episode, where Monica complained in the comedy
bit that she stepped on gum while hosting.
Throughout the episode, co-host Richard tried to
remove the bubble gum, which was ruining
"her $300 dollar shoes."
After an impressive first episode performance,
Monica got a rare opportunity on the next Sidewalks
episode: anchoring a show on her own after
appearing in one episode. With co-host /
producer Cindy
Rhodes interviewing on the pre-taped
celebrity segments, Monica announced all of the
episode's host intros.
Monica got another chance for on-air work by
interviewing rock bands at the 1st annual Vultures Row, a
day-long concert series held on San Francisco
Bay's Treasure Island.
In May 2003, Monica co-hosted with Richard on
The City of Richmond's Cinco de Mayo Festival.
