Relive our interview with the 11th Time Lord and his 1st companion. Matt and Karen before their super stardom with “Doctor Who.”
– Doctor Who (2010)
In a rare United States TV interview at that time, Doctor Who stars Matt Smith (plays the 11th Doctor) and Karen Gillan (companion Amy Pond) talk about starring in the long-running international hit. Majority of the interview with host Cindy Rhodes has the young stars responding to Doctor Who fan questions. Just added! Cindy bloopers with the cast names at the end of the interview.
Born and raised in Northampton, Matt Smith was an aspiring youth footballer until a back injury in 2003. Matt became an actor, who played Jim Taylor in the BBC adaptations of Phillip Pullman’s “The Ruby in the Smoke” and “The Shadow in the North” and as Danny in the BBC series Party Animals. He has guest-starred in “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” and “The Street.” Some of his theatrical work include “Fresh Kills,” “That Face,” “The History Boys,” and “Swimming with Sharks.” Matt was announced as the 11th Doctor for Doctor Who in January 2009, with a first appearance in part two of the 2010 special, “The End of Time.”
Born and raised in Inverness, Scotland, Karen Gillan is an actress and model, who has appeared in “The Kevin Bishop Show,” “Rebus,” and “Harley Street.” She had previously appeared in an earlier “Doctor Who” episode called “The Fires of Pompeii,” where she had a minor role as a soothsayer, before she joined the 11th Doctor (Smith) as companion Amy Pond in his regular adventures in 2010.
